learn-to-train program

learn-to-train program

The Learn-to-Train Program is the third progression in the TOP Soccer Player Pathway and is suitable for older players who would like to further develop their skills and/or aspire to join our Academy teams in the future. Our age and stage appropriate club curriculum is designed to individually challenge each player and focuses on various aspects of sports across the four corners of Long-Term Player Development (LTPD). Through a combination of skill development activities, physical literacy, and small-sided games, we aim to help participants reach their full potential.

This program follows a Game-Activity-Game (GAG) format, allowing players to transfer skill development into a small-sided game environment. Each group, led by dedicated TOP Soccer coaches, consists of a maximum of 12 players. We prioritize consistency by ensuring that coaches remain with their respective groups, as we recognize the importance of building bonds and understanding each child's development.

Learn-to-Train Program Seasons

  • Spring Season (April to June)

  • Summer Season (July to August)

  • Fall Season (September to October)

Spring & Fall sessions will take place at De La Salle College School turf. Pending any field closures, other facilities may be used. Summer sessions will take place at St. Michael’s College School.

Toronto Soccer Association
TOP Soccer is an accredited member of the Toronto Soccer Association, the governing body of soccer in Toronto. All players must be registered members of the TSA to participate in this program. Annual TSA registration fees are subsidized by TOP Soccer and a portion is included in participant fees.

Academy Call-Up Opportunities
There may be an opportunity to be called up to play with the TOP Soccer Academy team in one of their events. If an Academy team is short players, they can look to Learn-to-Train players to help fill out the roster spots which will provide players with the opportunity to participate in a festival or exhibition game at no cost.

frequently asked questions

    • TOP Soccer uniform, jersey, shorts and socks (provided)

    • Soccer cleats (mandatory)

    • Shin guards (mandatory)

  • We strongly encourage all players to use the bathroom before arriving at a program as bathrooms are not available at some facilities. Our coaches are NOT permitted to take children to the bathroom at any time. Parents must remain at the field to accompany their children to and from the bathroom.

  • We are happy to offer friend request opportunities so that friends in the same program may play and enjoy the game together. Our first priority is to create balanced groups, and this will supersede all requests where necessary. Requests are STRICTLY a 1:1 pairing opportunity where players involved must reciprocate requests.

  • The Academy program is an invitation-only competitive program. Players can be identified through coach evaluations on the field or by completing our Academy application form (LINK). In the TOP Soccer Academy, players participate in 3x events per week and play exhibition games and festivals against other clubs within the GTA. To find out more CLICK HERE.
