Learn-to-Play Program
Program Overview
The TOP Hockey Learn-to-Play program is one of the only programs that combines professional coaching and high-quality development with an efficient, ski-friendly hockey schedule. Our program provides a perfect introduction for beginner players to improve their skills in a fun, engaging environment, with the goal of moving to the U7 Development program for the following season.
Our coaches focus on athletic literacy (agility, balance, coordination), hockey fundamentals (striding, turning, stopping, passing, shooting), and gameplay (spacing, teamwork, decision-making). The pace is upbeat and the format is designed to build confidence while keeping kids moving from start to finish. It’s the perfect starting place for brand-new players and a great tune-up for active kids who want to try something new.

What Equipment Do I Need?
All players must wear full hockey equipment: CSA-approved helmet with cage, neckguard, skates, gloves, shoulder and elbow pads, jock/jill, pants, shin pads, socks, and a stick.
Who Is Eligible?
This is not a Learn-to-Skate program. Players should be able to get up independently, move on skates without assistance, feel comfortable on the ice without a parent, and be able to move around the ice without support.
Can I Register For Two Clubs?
Per Hockey Canada rules, players may only be registered with one sanctioned organization per season. Your Hockey Canada Registry number ensures you aren’t double-registered. Skating clubs, hockey schools, and private lessons do not count.
