Pre-Academy Teams (U7/U8)
Our Pre-Academy Program is designed for young players who are thriving in our Recreational Program and ready to take the next step in their development. This program is ideal for young athletes showing early promise, a strong work ethic, and a love for the game who are interested in a pre-competitive program with a focus on Long-Term Player Development, quality coaching, and reasonable schedule. Throughout the fall, players will be evaluated for potential placement in our U8 or U9 Boys and Girls Academy teams for the 2026 season. These Academy teams train and compete in Ontario Soccer-sanctioned leagues, tournaments, and festivals.
The Pre-Academy follows a carefully designed curriculum developed by Technical Director Tom Waud. The goal is to create a challenging but supportive environment where players can build confidence, sharpen their skills, and grow their game. We believe play is an essential part of a child's development, and we strive to make learning the game of soccer a fun and enjoyable experience for all.
- Modified Schedule (No Summers): Early September → end of October, no events in July & August.
- Weekly Commitment: Two weekly trainings at Midtown Toronto fields.
- Development-First: Age-appropriate environment, low player to coach ratio.
- Professional Coaches: Technical staff, non-parent coaches, and a modern curriculum.
- Multi-Sport Friendly: Minimal overlap with TOP Hockey & TOP Lacrosse.
- Player Pathway: Clear progression U8 → U13+ with consistent standards.

Toronto Soccer Association
TOP Soccer is an accredited member of the Toronto Soccer Association, the governing body for soccer in Toronto. All players must be registered members of the TSA to participate in this program. Annual TSA registration fees are subsidized by TOP Soccer and a portion is included in participant fees.
Call-Up Opportunities
There may be the opportunity to be called up to play with the TOP Soccer Academy team in one of their events. If an Academy team is short players, they can look to Recreational Players to help fill out the roster spots, which will provide players with the opportunity to participate in a festival or league game.

Players will not be permitted to play up an age division unless exceptional circumstances exist. This policy is designed to prioritize the safety of all players, physical, social, and emotional development, balanced team environments and equitable competition, and the long-term success and enjoyment of each player.
