Competitive Teams
A competitive pathway from U7-U13 for boys and girls featuring TOSL League and Festival play
Program Overview
TOP Soccer offers a structured competitive player development pathway from U7-U13+ for boys and girls with a focus on Long-Term Player Development, high-quality coaching and full-season set schedules that make it easier for kids to play multiple sports. Our Pre-Academy Program (U7-U8) introduces young players to a more structured development setting and serves as a bridge into our Academy and Competitive pathways. Our Academy Teams (U8-U12) provide players with a development-focused competitive soccer experience featuring TOSL league or festival play throughout the outdoor season. Our Competitive Teams (U13+) offers enhanced development pathways for both boys and girls through two streams: Competitive Teams and Academy/Festival Teams. Competitive Teams provide a higher level of competition and full-season commitment through TOSL League play, while Academy/Festival Teams offer a more flexible schedule with quality coaching, games, and tournament opportunities and no summer committments.

Pre-Academy Teams (U7/U8)
Our Pre-Academy Program is designed for young players who are thriving in our Recreational Program and ready to take the next step in their development. This program is ideal for young athletes showing early promise, a strong work ethic, and a love for the game who are interested in a pre-competitive program with a focus on Long-Term Player Development, quality coaching, and a reasonable schedule. Throughout the fall, players will be evaluated for potential placement in our U8 or U9 Boys and Girls Academy teams for the 2027 season. These Academy teams train and compete in Ontario Soccer-sanctioned leagues, tournaments, and festivals.
The Pre-Academy follows a carefully designed curriculum developed by Technical Director Tom Waud. The goal is to create a challenging but supportive environment where players can build confidence, sharpen their skills, and grow their game. We believe play is an essential part of a child's development, and we strive to make learning the game of soccer a fun and enjoyable experience for all.

Outdoor 2026
Academy Teams (U8 – U12)
Our Academy program is designed for players U8 to U12 who are interested in a competitive soccer program with a focus on Long-Term Player Development, quality coaching, and full-season set schedules that make it easier for kids to play multiple sports. We offer Academy teams during the outdoor season which runs mid-April to end of October. Teams compete in the TOSL league or festival schedule throughout May, June, & September, with additional festivals in April/May/October. TOP Soccer teams take a two-month break during the summer where there are no team events, practices, or games.
Each season we offer multiple teams per age group, split by gender. Interested players must fill out an application form to register their interest in joining the program. Once we have determined how many players are returning from the previous season’s team, interested players will be notified if/when there is room in their desired age group. Acceptance to the program is not on a ‘first come first serve’ basis, but is determined by an evaluation of the player’s previous experience and application. Priority will always be given to athletes who play more than one sport at TOP.

Team Selection: for U13 teams, open development sessions will take place each Fall for the following Outdoor season. For U14+ teams, tryouts will take place in early October for the following season. Teams will be selected based on previous playing experience, skill level, family philosophy, and general program fit. In the event there are enough players to form multiple teams per stream (ie. 2x Competitive League teams), we will create tiered teams.

FAQs
Common Questions
Are there tryouts for Academy teams?
At the Grassroots level (U8-U12), we do not believe tryouts are a suitable way to evaluate players. Teams are selected by Application Process, factoring in previous experience, multi-sport history, and family philosophy, amongst other criteria. Generally, we offer multiple teams per age group, which allows us to provide a place to play for the majority of interested players.
What League do TOP Soccer teams play in? How many games per season?
TOP Soccer teams play in the TOSL, a district league based in Toronto operated by the Toronto Soccer Association. At the Grassroots level, U8-U9 teams play weekly festivals on Saturdays (2x shorter games per festival) throughout May, June, and September, totalling 14-16 games. U10-U13 teams play in a league format with a longer weekly game on Saturdays, totalling 15 games per season.
Do you offer year round programs?
As part of our commitment to multi-sport development, our programs follow a seasonal schedule and we do not mandate training in the off-season. For players who are interested in extra training, we offer optional programs in the summer and winter months, however attendance at these programs has no bearing on selection to a TOP Soccer team.
Are players required to purchase uniforms?
Yes, each two years TOP Soccer players are required to purchase our Adidas player kit, which incudes 2-3 game jerseys, 1x shorts, 1x socks, custom Adidas tracksuit, and custom Adidas backpack.
